“Chandan Arora, you
were the wild card entry and you made it……..”
As those words pierced into the ears of dynamic,
participative, soft-spoken and active Chandan Arora, a better future with a
good brand name like Larsen & Toubro was ensured. Hailing from a finance background and
convincing for a marketing profile to the recruiter was the toughest mountain
that he conquered very easily. As he opened the tally for FA stream, we caught
him up for a conversation……….
Ankit- A
lot of people to thanks for this remarkable achievement. How is the feeling
right now and how was it at that point of time?
Chandan -I
was numb when I heard those words from the HR. Next morning when I woke up
“whats next” was the question in front of me, but for the first time it gave me the biggest relief that I never had.
I may never be able to thank Avnish Vyas
Sir for motivating me and always pushing me to do something out of my
comfort zone because he knows me better than I know myself. There is one more
person without whom this recruitment of mine wouldn’t be possible and he is
Anant Shrivastava, despite of his busy schedule he worked on my resume and he
took my telephonic interviews so that I may prepare myself best. My placement
cell family who have always supported me and standing by my side in my
thick and thins. Last but not least my family and Ganpati bappa.
Ankit- Where
do you think it worked that prompted the HR to recruit you as a “Wild Card Entry”?
Chandan- In
the presentation when I answered few questions that he asked, it gave me and Sheetal
Rajani a lead over others because by then he remembered our names.
Ankit- Talk
something about your experiences in Group Discussion and Interview?
Chandan- Before
answering this question I would like to share two lines that I had read in our
college campus and they are:
- One should never loose self confidence.
-
Learning from failures is very important.
The GD was a case study based on a
CAB SERVICES company, wherein we were required to identify the problems, find
alternative solutions, find best possible solution, etc.
It was a panel interview which had
three panel members who were asking questions related to HR, family and
technical questions.
They asked me questions related to my strengths, hobbies,
which were mentioned in my resume and particularly they asked me in what way
you are creative?
They threw a chit-pad towards me and asked me to show my
creativity. I picked that and made a calendar on it. Seeing this they
appreciated me. After my interview I was very confident that I will be
shortlisted.

Ankit- What
is Chandan Arora’s Unique Selling Point?
Chandan- Confidence, hardcore and intensive preparation, equanimity and presence of mind, participative nature
Ankit- From
your personal experience, what a company expects from a suitable candidate?
Chandan-Technical
knowledge, excellent communication skills, presence of mind, active and
motivated body language.
Ankit- Talk
something about the kind of preparation you did?
Chandan- Mugged up whole website of L & T finance,
Read my summer internship project, worked on my resume and highlighted the work
experience related to sales.
Ankit- How
do you look at your competitors?
Chandan- I
hate my competitors and I always want myself to be the best among all. I
inculcate their qualities in me and try to enhance my personality.
Ankit- How
much potential these particular batch has when it comes to placements?
Chandan-Very
much potential in terms of technical knowledge but the constraint is
communication.
Ankit-How
was your LIFE@IMS till now?
Chandan- Dream
came true, I left IIPS just to get placed with a brand name and IMS helped me
to accomplish my goal.
Ankit-Last piece of advice?
Chandan- Work
on your resume according to the profile offered by company, mug-up your resume,
check the website thoroughly, be confident.
